 Jeanette Fisher
loves houses. She first studied interior design at Orange Coast College in Costa
Mesa, California. After she and her husband bought their first home (a fixer in
Huntington Beach), they were hooked on fixing houses for their growing family.
In 1985, the Fishers moved to Palatka, Florida to raise their children in a
friendly small-town environment, and to buy Jeanette's dream home. This Queen
Anne Victorian taught them more than they cared to know about home renovation!
Also, the kitchen remodel lead to Jeanette's discoveries about feelings inspired
from decorating choices.
She studied how human emotions and senses react to specific design details and
called her method "Design Psychology." Her research at the University of Florida
in nearby Gainesville uncovered design ideas contrary to her college interior
design studies. She then researched happiness to find out what makes a person
happy. Jeanette's son Evan helped with the research from Harvard University.
During this time, Jeanette earned a Bachelor's degree from Bethune Cookman
College in Daytona Beach
Jeanette's conclusion after years of design and happiness research: "Homemakers
should give more thought to their home decorating and reserve the design
planning for themselves, instead of hiring an interior designer."
After returning to California 13 years later, the Fishers purchased a modern
home. Jeanette says, "No matter the architectural style of your home, you can
design it to support your emotional needs."
Jeanette has applied Design Psychology to the renovation and sale of over thirty
personal homes. With over fifteen years of research experience in Design
Psychology, she teaches college courses on Design Psychology and real estate
