About Design Psychology Website

Grab a cup of coffee and take a look around our new website. Tell us what you think.

The information provided in this website is a gift to searchers for innovative interior and exterior design. Although other interior designers and website designers practice different forms of "Design Psychology," the design ideas presented here come from Jeanette Fisher's unique brand of Design Psychology.

Other interior designers and psychologists promote "environmental autobiography," and though they label this field "Design Psychology," their ideas differ from Jeanette Fisher's home design philosophy. Jeanette says, " I wouldn't want to live in a home like the one I grew up in again; that would be going backwards. Today's homes offer so much more than the tract houses of the sixties."

Because Jeanette strongly feels that home design wraps the exterior setting to the interior design, she prefers the term "residential design" instead of "interior design."

This website contains information on how to use Design Psychology in other areas besides home makeovers. The Fishers use the design principles to remodel fixers and for home staging. In addition to real estate applications, you will find ideas to create a productive office space, including a clinical psychologist office. (More psychologists contact Jeanette than interior designers! Maybe that's because she thinks homeowners should enjoy their own home design planning.)

We offer college courses, books, free articles and reports, newsletters, and teleclasses from which you can receive the same college class information by phone, no matter where you live.

Research

Jeanette has been a leading expert in the field of Design Psychology since 1986. She continually updates her research on the physiological and psychological effects of design elements through University libraries, trade publications, and practical applications.

Jeanette has received help with her research from her son Evan, who graduated with honors from Harvard University. Evan received his Bachelor's degree in architecture from the University of Florida and his Master's degree in architecture from Harvard. Currently, Evan is an Associate at multi-award winning  Scheurer Architects, Newport Beach, California.
